Beekeeping Basics

We will cover the 4 seasons, beginning with the coming winter, emphasizing colony biology and management for the annual population cycle of both honey bees and bee mites. Management options for buildup and keeping colonies together, if surplus honey is an objective, will be featured. Season long plan to flatten the mite growth curve and keep eventual mite population at lower level outlined. What we don’t know that we need to know to succeed in bee colony care.

Bee MD

Bee MD is a web-based (app eventually) diagnostic application for use in the field to diagnose honey bee health problems. I have spent the last year revising the Pollinator Protection (P2) Bee MD website and am in process of moving it to a USDA, APHIS, Information and Technology server. The new server has many user-friendly features to help find answers for what you might encounter in the bee hive. We will look at this resource and maybe even answer a question or two you have about your bees as we begin with a new bee new year.
