The 2021 State Fair Is a Go
Planning for our 2021 OSBA booth at the Oregon State Fair with the theme”The Great Pollinator” is underway. Continuing our annual tradition of over 50 years, we plan to make our booth one of the top draws in the Creative Living Building.
The fair is open for 11 days, August 27 – September 6, 2021. As for COVID precautions, it is possible that there may be a mask mandate of some kind, especially inside the buildings. The Oregon State Fair will comply with whatever the Governor says. We look forward to seeing you there. In addition, for those who may be interested in getting involved, we have a competition and the booth itself!

**Honey and Products from the Hive Competition
There WILL be a competition at the State Fair for honey and products from the hive after all. Competition is broken into Youth and Adult divisions. Online Entry Deadline: 10 pm, Monday, August 23. Deliver Entries: Tuesday, August 24, 2 pm – 7 pm. Download the 2021 Honey & Products from the Hive Handbook:

**Beeswax Carving/Molding Competition
OSBA is still hosting a BEESWAX CARVING/MOLDING COMPETITION. Enter your creatively crafted beeswax artwork (at least 3 pounds) by bringing it to our booth Tuesday, August 24, 2 pm – 6 pm. From rustic to the most intricate designs, we hope to see many participants enter their artful pieces, which will be displayed in our booth. Take this chance to show your stuff! Entry forms are at our booth. Winner will be chosen by People’s Choice and announced on the last day of the fair. The winner will receive a $50 prize (from proceeds of the honey show auctions at our annual conferences).
Reminder: this is a separate contest from the State Fair competition.
**Location
The Creative Living “farm and garden” displays (including us) have been moved to the building next to Columbia Hall (in the Floral Bldg). Our booth size remains the same and there is easy access with large doors (and the bathroom is closeby). A map will be sent out to volunteers before the fair begins.
All Competition honey and other entries will be displayed within our booth throughout the fair.
Setting Up | Staffing | Taking Down
We welcome your suggestions and input, so please share your ideas and resources.
Volunteers are needed to make this happen:
- To set up August 24–26 and break down September 7.Â
- To staff the booth, with shifts 10 am–2 pm, 2 pm–6 pm, & 6 pm–10 pm (11 pm on Friday/Saturday).
- To wear the honey bear costume.
- To supply nucs for the observation hive.
- And more!
Volunteers receive free fair admission and parking.
