Benefits of Affiliation with OSBA

As an affiliated association of the Oregon State Beekeepers Association, you support the work of the ongoing work of the organization in providing resources and education for those concerned with bees and other pollinators throughout the region. This involves, among other things, OSBA’s specific efforts, for affiliates as listed here.

  • Offers a seat on the board for providing input on bees and beekeeping in the area and voicing concerns as a voting member
  • Issues a newsletter with current news and events of affiliated associations, available in print or digitally, 10 months of the year
  • Provides a website that serves as a resource for members as well as others interested in honey bees and beekeeping practice that includes events and access to affiliate meeting times and locations, websites, and other information
  • Manages a swarm call list of its members as well as posts swarm call lists submitted by affiliation associations as a service to the public
  • Offers classified ads for members as well as the public, including members of affiliated associations, both in its newsletter and online
  • Provides member access to presenters and topics for meetings and events
  • Produces an annual membership directory to support communication among beekeepers and others with interest in pollinators throughout the region with affiliated association contact and meeting information
  • Supports the OSU Honey Bee Lab and research generally by raising money through research fund solicitations, annual auctions, and matching donations for affiliated associations
  • When possible, offers affiliated associations a complimentary registration for the annual conference.
  • Provides and manages a booth at the Oregon State Fair to increase understanding of the role of pollinators that engages the support of members of affiliated associations
  • Provides liability insurance for designated events and promotional activities of affiliated associations throughout the state (see How to Receive a Certificate of Liability Insurance)

Five members of the association requesting affiliation need to hold membership as well in OSBA for the year of affiliation. For a given year, mail needs to be postmarked no later than January 15 of that year. Planning ahead is encouraged to ensure accuracy and completeness.
