North Willamette Valley Regional Representative

Region: Northward of the City of Albany

Nathan Richard has lived in Salem, Oregon, for over 40 years and he and his wife have four grown children, ten grandchildren, and two great grand children.

They have been beekeepers for 6 years now and have been members of the Willamette Valley Beekeepers Association for that same length of time.

His then son-in-law was interested in beekeeping and asked him to help him get started. They attended a few meetings in the fall/winter before joining the association.

Nathan’s dairy farm upbringing began to kick back in and he was hooked on a new form of agriculture that was totally intriguing to him and kept drawing him in further until the next spring they purchased two nucleus colonies to get started. Son-in-law has since lost his desire but he has continued and now have his wife hooked as she has been a real help, encouragement, and partner in this venture. They have grown to the most hives last summer of eighteen and will continue to slowly grow this into a “retirement hobby.”
