Date(s) - Apr 6, 2019
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
This is a twice-yearly event. Held at “Barefarm” in Camas Valley Oregon.
April 6 10:00- 4:00
This event is in conjunction with assistance from “Douglas County Bees” and Oregon Master Beekeeper program via Phil Moulton
“In the Hive” event is a daylong event, Where the first hour is a meet and great with introductions and a “sit-down” class regarding safety and what is planned for that day.
All attendees must have a Bee suit and sign a liability waiver.
Attendance will be limited to the number of experienced beekeepers assisting to insure a one on two experience.
This event is different than other state-wide events in that the intent is to introduce new and continuing beekeepers to the Hive. And get them “In the Hive”
Each participant shall:
- Introduce themselves to the Bee hive.
- Evaluate the condition of the hive through observation.
- Do a Hive inspection to the standards of the OSU Master beekeeper program
- Perform a Mite count, discuss the condition of the Hive being inspected for the up-coming season. Treat for mites.
Benefits to Beekeepers:
Most “newbee” beekeepers learn from reading books, online resources and seminars. None of these prepare them to get “in the hive” and actually interact with thousands of bees at one time. This cannot be learned from a book. The only other way to have this interaction is in a Mentor-mentee relationship and this is not always possible. “In the Hive” helps fill this gap.
Phil Moulton OSU Journey Master beekeeper.
